جريمتان كانتا، صباح الثلاثاء في 16 نيسان 2024، خبراً متداولاً، وإن بمستويين متفاوتين. الأولى، حصلت في العزونية (قضاء عاليه)، وأدت إلى مقتل رجل ستيني خلال محاولة سرقة منزله. الثانية، وقعت في المية ومية (قضاء صيدا)، وكانت ضحيتها امرأة أربعينية وجدت مقطعة ثلاث قطع ومدفونة في حديقة منزلها.
أمام هاتين الجريمتين، اختارت التلفزيونات اللبنانية الخبر الأول موضوعاً للمتابعة في نشراتها الإخبارية. وهذا ليس مفاجئاً. إذ منذ اللحظة الأولى لشيوع الخبر رُبطت الجريمة بـ«اللهجة السورية» للمشتبه بهم. أما الجريمة الثانية، وإن كانت تندرج ضمن سلسلة جرائم تستهدف النساء بلا توقف، فمرتكبها (الذي أقر بجريمته بعد العثور على الجثة) لبناني. بالتالي، لا قيمة تضيفها إلى سياق التحريض على السوريين/ات.
MTV والجديد
هكذا، أرسل تلفزيونا MTV والجديد مراسلتين إلى البلدة، لتقدما رسالة مباشرة خلال نشرة الظهيرة، تخبران فيها، بعزم وإصرار وبكل الأشكال الممكنة، لا عن سورية المشتبه بهم فحسب، بل حتى سورية مستأجري الشقق التي يملكها القتيل. وفي نشرة الأخبار المسائية، عرضت كل من المحطتين تقريراً عن الجريمة، لم يحد عما جاء في البث المباشر.
وكان موقع MTV، قد بدأ تغطيته للحدث بخبر عنوانه «مسلسل جرائم السوريين تابع… قيدوه وقتلوه!»، زعم فيه أن «الجريمة أدت إلى غضب عارم في صفوف الأهالي في المنطقة، وقد قام بعضهم بمهاجمة بيوت النازحين وإجبارهم على تركها». وهو ما نفاه مختار البلدة، في كل تصريحاته تقريباً، إلى درجة أنه في إحداها أعلن رقم هاتفه، داعياً المهتمين للاتصال به والتأكد قبل نشر الأخبار الكاذبة. لكن الخبر بقي على حاله، واستنسخته مواقع عديدة.
في كل الأحوال، كان تلفزيون الجديد وحده، من بين 4 تلفزيونات، من أشار إلى جريمة المية ومية بخبر خلال نشرة الظهيرة.
OTV
لم تعذب OTV أياً من مراسليها بالذهاب إلى العزونية. لكن الخبر حضر في عناوين نشرتها الإخبارية المسائية بالحديث عن «بصمة سورية في جريمة العزونية»، بالإضافة إلى عرض تقرير عنها. وكان دفع مختار البلدة، خلال اتصال هاتفي معه، إلى الحديث عن لهجة المشتبه بهم السورية واضحاً.
LBC
لا تهتم LBC كثيراً بالجرائم، حتى لا تشوه صورة لبنان. مع ذلك، حضر خبر جريمة العزونية في نشرة الظهيرة، من دون تدخل مراسل، ولا ذكر أي جنسية. وهذه لحظة استثنائية، بدا معها أن روح قارئة النشرة، ندى اندراوس، تتعذب.
الجنسية قبل الجريمة
مع كل جريمة، يبدو البحث عن جنسية المشتبه بهم، من الناحية الخبرية، أهم بكثير من تفاصيل الجريمة نفسها أو حتى ضحيتها ومأساتها. فالسؤال عن الهوية واللهجة، وإبرازهما، ليسا بلا دلالة. إذ إنهما يحددان، غالباً، أهمية الخبر والجريمة. من هذه «البديهية»، استمدت مراسلة «ليبانون ديبايت» ماريان طوق ثقة لتقول، في بث مباشر، إن «نقل هوية المعتدي أو القاتل» هو «واجبنا [كصحافيين]»، لأنه «الواقع اليوم».
مخرجات الجريمة
في تعليقه على جريمة العزونية، كتب النائب راجي السعد، على «إكس»، «التفلت الأمني يزداد يوماً بعد يوم والمطلوب تنظيم وضع السوريين بشكل شامل لأن الموضوع بات يشكل خطراً على جميع اللبنانيين». أما النائب سيزار أبي خليل، فأمل بـ«العمل الجدي والجامع لدرء المخاطر المحدقة بالبلاد عبر العودة الآمنة والكريمة للنازحين إلى قراهم في سوريا».
وبعد ثناء النائب جميل السيد على مسؤولية عائلة الضحية، و«عدم رمي الاتهامات جزافاً ضد النازحين أو استثمار الجريمة لأهداف سياسية أو دينية أو عنصرية بخلاف ما حصل مؤخراً في جرائم مماثلة»، حرّض بالقول إن «كل هذه الفوضى توجب على دولتنا ضبط النازحين وإحصاؤهم وتحديد أماكن إقامتهم وتجولهم مؤقتاً».
The “Extra” crime obscures the “Ordinary” crime
Two crimes were circulated on Tuesday morning, April 16, 2024. Both widely reported but at two varying levels of intensity. The first took place in Al-Azouniyeh (Aley District), resulting in the death of a sixty-year-old man during a burglary attempt at his home. The second occurred in Miyye w Miyye (Sidon District), where a woman in her forties was found dismembered into three pieces and buried in the garden of her house.
Faced with these two crimes, Lebanese television channels chose the first story as the subject of their news bulletins, unsurprisingly. From the very moment the news broke, the crime was linked to the “Syrian accent” of the suspects. As for the second crime, although it falls within a series of crimes targeting women relentlessly, its perpetrator (who confessed to the crime after the discovery of the body) is Lebanese. Therefore, it does not add any value to the context of incitement against Syrians.
MTV and Aljadeed TV
MTV and Aljadeed TV sent two reporters to the town to deliver a live message during the noon news, informing with full determination and in every possible way that not only the suspects were Syrians but also to highlight the Syrian nationality of the people renting the apartments owned by the deceased. In the evening news, both TVs presented a report on the crime, not deviating from what was broadcast live.
MTV’s website began its coverage of the event with a headline titled “Syrian Crimes Series Continues… They Tied Him Up and Killed Him!” claiming that “the crime led to furious anger among the locals in the area, with some attacking the homes of displaced persons and forcing them to leave.” This was refuted by the town mayor in nearly all of his statements, to the extent that in one of them, he announced his phone number, inviting interested parties to contact him and verify before spreading false news. However, the story remained unchanged, and it was reproduced by numerous other websites.
In all cases, Al Jadeed TV was the only one among the four television channels to mention the crime in Miyye w Miyye during the noon bulletin.
OTV
Though OTV did not send any of its reporters to Al-Azouniyeh, one of its headlines of its evening news was discussing the “Syrian footprint in Al-Azouniyeh crime,” along with a report on it. Moreover, the mayor of the town, during a phone call, was clearly prompted to talk about the Syrian accent of the suspects.
LBC
LBC doesn’t pay much attention to crimes to avoid tarnishing Lebanon’s image. Nevertheless, the news of Al-Azouniyeh crime appeared in the noon bulletin without any correspondent intervention and without mentioning any nationality. This was an exceptional moment, during which it seemed that the newsreader, Nada Andraos, was tormented.
Nationality Preceding the Crime
With every crime, the search for the nationality of the suspects seems to be far more important from a news perspective than the details of the crime itself or even its victims and their tragedies. Questioning identity and accent, and highlighting them, are not without significance, as they often determine the importance of the news and the crime. From this “obviousness,” Lebanon Debate correspondent Marian Touk drew confidence to say, in a live broadcast, that “reporting the identity of the assailant or the killer” is “our duty [as journalists],” because it is “the reality today”.
The Crime Outputs
In his comment on Al-Azouniyeh crime, MP Raji Al-Saad wrote on “X”, “Security deterioration is increasing day by day, and what is needed is to comprehensively regulate the situation of Syrians because the matter has become a danger to all Lebanese.” As for MP Cezar Abi Khalil, he hoped for “serious and inclusive action to avert the risks facing the country through the safe and dignified return of displaced persons to their villages in Syria”.
After Deputy, Jamil Al-Sayyed paising the responsibility of the victim’s family and “not hurling accusations arbitrarily against the displaced or exploiting the crime for political, religious, or racial purposes unlike what happened recently in similar crimes.” He incited by saying that “all this chaos necessitates our state to regulate and count the displaced people, determine their places of residence, and temporarily restrict their movement.”
