لا يريد مدير تحرير جريدة النهار غسان حجار أن يتحول تناول «ملف النازحين السوريين إلى عنصرية وعدائية وخطاب كراهية»، كما كتب في مقاله «النزوح السوري خطر وجودي… بلا عنصرية» (12 آذار 2024). مع ذلك، يصفه بـ«الخطر الوجودي»، ويربطه بوصاية «أسياد» السوريين/ات على لبنان، ويتبنى خطاب حملة «بيت لبنان العالم»، وإلى آخره.
لكن ليس هذا هو المهم. المقال، في هدفه الأول والأخير، تبخير لصاحبة المال، الوزيرة السابقة ليلى الصلح حمادة، التي زارت (10 آذار) المدير العام للأمن العام اللواء إلياس البيسري. إذ ينقل حجار عنها «كلمات تعبّر عن الواقع الأليم»، هي نموذج مثالي- ليس من وجهة نظره طبعاً- عن كيفية تحويل «الملف» إلى عنصرية وتحريض وعدائية.
قالت: «كفر الشعب وسكت عن الحدود المشرّعة غير مدرك أن الخطر الحقيقي هو الوجود السوري، قاسمونا المغانم في زمن الرخاء والاحتلال، واليوم في زمن الشدة يقاسموننا الأرزاق، يسالموننا عند الشروق ويغتالوننا عند المغيب، لا أحد يطالب بحق عودتهم بل أصروا على ايوائهم… هل طمعاً بمساعداتهم الأممية، أم تواطؤاً مع أسيادهم أم استقواء بطائفتهم؟ أيها اللواء، الخطر بدارك والعدو الودود على أرضك والعدو اللدود في جنوبك، على أمل أن نسترجع يوماً مهاجراً بكى وغادر ويعود نازح من حيث أتى ويُسترد مال نُهب وهُرّب».
حجار شاطر في تبييض الطناجر. يلحس، إذا لزم الأمر، تراب الأرض. هكذا، في سياق سعيه إلى تقديم حمادة نموذجاً يُحتذى، حذف جملاً (هي الملونة في الاقتباس السابق) من تصريحها، مخففاً من فظاعة ما قالته. وإن كنا نعتقد أن ما نقله عنها، في الأساس، كاف لوصفه بـ«العنصرية» و«العدائية» و«خطاب الكراهية». لكن، مجدداً، ليس من وجهة نظره.
Ghassan is Drumming Up Support for Leila
The editorial Director of Al Nahar newspaper, Ghassan Hajjar, does not want the issue of “the Syrian refugees to turn into racism, hostility, or hate speech”, as he wrote in his article “The Syrian displacement is an existential danger… without racism” (March 12, 2024). However, he describes it as an “existential danger” and links it to the guardianship of Syrian “masters” over Lebanon, adopting the discourse of the “World House of Lebanon” campaign, and so forth.
However, that’s not the important point. The article, in its first and last aim, is a glorification of the money owner, the former minister Leila Al-Solh Hamadeh, who visited (March 10) the General Director of General Security, Brigadier General Elias Al-Baisari. Hajjar quotes her; “words that reflect the painful reality”, which is an ideal model – not from his point of view, of course – of how to turn “the issue” into racism, incitement, and hostility.
She said, “The people’s disbelief and silence regarding the open borders is unaware that the real danger is the Syrian presence. They shared our spoils in times of prosperity and occupation, and today, in times of hardship, they share our fortunes. They greet us at sunrise and assassinate us at sunset. No one demands their right to return; rather, they insist on hosting them… Is it greed for their international aid, complicity with their masters, or reinforcement of their sect? O General! The danger lurks within your home, the friendly foe upon your soil, and the hostile adversary to your south, in the hope that one day we will reclaim a migrant who shed tears and departed, and a displaced person returns, and the money plundered and smuggled away will be reclaimed”.
Hajjar is clever in whitewashing the pots. He licks, if necessary, the dust of the earth. Thus, in his attempt to present Hamadeh as a role model to be followed, he omitted the sentences (the colorful ones in the previous quote) from her statement, softening the severity of what she said. Even though we believe that what he conveyed from her, fundamentally, is sufficient to describe it as “racism”, “hostility”, and “hate speech”. But, again, not from his point of view.
