اللاجئون/ات السوريون/ات وحربنا المقبلة

في لبنان المعجزة، أن تكون مسؤولاً وصاحب سلطة أو فاعلاً في الشأن العام، في زمن السلم، مثل رئيس الرابطة المارونية خليل كرم، يعني أن تكون مهموماً بتكييف الواقع الراهن مع «حرب [لبنانية] مقبلة»، أكثر بالضرورة من اهتمامك بتحسين معيشة السكان. فتذهب إلى الفاتيكان، مثلاً، وتخبر عن قلقك من اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات بشأن تلك الحرب، الحتمية على ما يبدو. إنه بلد التوازنات رجاءً.

In Lebanon, the country of miracles, if, like the head of the Maronite League, Khalil Karam, you are in a position of authority or actively engaged in public affairs, even in times of peace, you might still be more concerned with preparing for a “potential (Lebanese) war” than with working on enhancing the current quality of people’s lives. So, the right thing to do when you go to the Vatican is, naturally, to express your concerns about the Syrian refugees’ situation in the forthcoming war – which seems inevitable – because, as you know, “the stability of Lebanon depends on a fragile balance”.
