في مجتمع يخاف من تعداد أفراده، يبدو مفارقاً تفجر مهاراته في تعداد الآخرين/ات. هكذا، نجد إحصاءات لا آخر لها لأعداد اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات في لبنان، ولا أحد يعرف كيف تحصل، أو إلى ماذا تستند. لكن يمكن تسجيل ثلاث ملاحظات بشأنها:
أولاً، الأرقام التي نعرضها هنا، بالاستناد إلى بعض ما نشره الإعلام اللبناني خلال أقل من شهر واحد، قد تتلاقى وتتباعد عن بعضها، فلا يكون لفارق يقدر بعشرة آلاف إنسان/ة أو مئات الآلاف أو حتى مليون، بين إحصاء وآخر، أي قيمة. وهذا مفهوم. فالعد، في هذا السياق، لا يهدف إلا للتهويل والتخويف. وهو ما لا يبدو بعيداً عن استعماله المعتاد في «سياقاتنا اللبنانية».
ثانياً، في الغالب لا يُحسم التعداد. إذ هناك دائماً شرائح وفئات، بين اللاجئين/ات، تُسمى لكن لا يشملها الإحصاء وهي قادرة على زيادة المجموع، بإضافة عشرات أو مئات آلاف الأفراد إليه في أي لحظة. وهذه من أصول اللعب بالأرقام.
ثالثاً، فيما تنمو أعداد السوريين/ات في لبنان بسرعات فائقة، يستقر تعداد اللبنانيين/ات، خلال المقارنة واحتساب النسب، عند أربعة ملايين نسمة. كيف ولماذا، لا أحد يعرف.
Census for the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon: choose the number that you desire
If a society is frightened from enumerating its own individuals, it seems paradoxical that its skills explode when it comes to enumeration of others. Consequently, we find ceaseless statistics on the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and no one knows how they are obtained, or what they are based on. However, three observations can be made regarding them:
First, the numbers that we present here, that are based on some of what the Lebanese media published in less than one month, may converge and diverge from each other, in such a way that the difference estimated at ten thousand people, or hundreds of thousands, or even a million, between one census and another, has no merit. And this is understandable. Counting, in this context, aims only to intimidate and torment. This does not seem far from what we use in our “Lebanese contexts”.
Secondly, the census is often indecisive. There are always segments and groups, among the refugees, that are named but not included in the census and are capable of increasing the total, by adding tens or hundreds of thousands of individuals to it at any moment. This is one of the basics of playing with numbers.
Third, as the number of Syrians in Lebanon is growing at breakneck speeds, the Lebanese population, through comparison and calculation of percentages, has stabilized at four million. How and for what reason, no one knows.
