معجزة عونية في صغبين

لا يقبل التيار الوطني الحر أن يتفوق عليه أحد بالعنصرية تجاه اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات. وقد صارت المنافسة، في الأشهر الأخيرة على الأقل، شديدة. هكذا، وجد النائب شربل مارون نفسه مدفوعاً إلى الابتكار والتجديد. فهو، في هذه المقابلة، يستكثر على لاجئ سوري (يجهل اسمه، لكنه يعرف كل شيء آخر عنه!) أن يتقدم بشكوى إلى القضاء بعد تعرضه لتهديدات وابتزاز في بلدة صغبين، التي بالمناسبة تفرض حظر تجول على اللاجئين/ات بدءاً من الساعة الثامنة مساءً.
وفي هذا السياق، يمكن للنائب العوني أن يستعين لا بأفكار غامضة حول الوطنية والسيادة والكرامة فحسب، بل حتى أن يزج في حديثه الاستعلائي الجيش ومتقاعديه و”هيبتهم”. كأن العسكري الحالي أو المتقاعد كائن من درجة عليا، لا يخطئ ومحاسبته لا تجوز.
لو أننا في مكان آخر، لكنا سألنا عن كفاءة المشرعين في هذه البلاد. لكننا هنا، ما عدنا نستغرب ولا نتفاجأ. حقارة تجر عنصرية، وعنصرية تجر حقارة.

An “Aouni” Miracle in Saghbine

The Free Patriotic Movement does not accept to get surpassed by anyone when it comes to racism towards the Syrian refugees. The competition has become, in the last months at least, intense.
In that way, the deputy in parliament Charbel Maroun found himself driven to innovation and resumption.
In this interview, he finds it a bit much that a Syrian refugee (to whose name he’s oblivious, but every other thing about him he, to the fullest extent, knows!) filed a complaint with the judiciary after he was subjected to threats and extortion in the village of Saghbin, which, by the way, imposes a curfew on refugees starting from 8 pm.
In this context, the Aounist deputy did not only use vague ideas about patriotism, sovereignty and dignity, but he even involved the army, its retirees and their “prestige” in his big-headed talk. As if the working or the retired militant is an elite being, who does not make mistakes and is not permissible to be held accountable.
If we were anywhere else, we would ask about the competence of the legislators in this country. But here we are, no longer surprised or weirded-out. Despicableness leads to racism, and racism leads to despicableness.
